Question by Jenny K: Thinking of surprising my husband with a Las Vegas trip in Jan 2010… On a budget of 00?
I found a great package deal on priceline for 0 a person (40.00 total) and it includes round trip airfare from Albany, NY, A rental car and 9 nights at Stratosphere Tower hotel. I also added trip insurance and a 5 day Las Vegas Power Pass included in this price. Is this a good deal? Has anyone been to this hotel or used a power pass? Do you think this is a good 25th Bday present? And can you suggest any inexpensive dining and attractions. We have never been to Vegas before and we don’t drink. Thanks A bunch

I wouldn’t do Stratosphere…. It’s FAR on the strip – not near any of the other hotels and not in the greatest area on LV Blvd. If you can find that price at any of the mid-Strip hotels, take it. I recommend www.vegas.com to use – it’s thru USAir and often has better deals than the others. I’d recommend staying at places like the Mirage, Paris, MGM Grand, Caesar’s, or pretty much any of the big hotels.

You can eat kinda cheap in this city – the buffet at the Palms is .99 for lunch and is really good. Carnival World buffet at the Rio is for dinner and is amazing. All the hotels have cafe’s/coffee shops that are decent.

Attractions are plentiful – but because this city changes so fast, what’s here today may not be the same in January. I recommend the fountains and the gardens at Bellagio – they’re free. Eiffel Tower at Paris is I think a person and you can see the whole city. Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is about the same price and a good way to kill a couple of hours.

I’ve settled onto the plane for a trip to Ireland. And yes, it’s Aer Lingus the Irish national airline. This is an overnight flight, leaving Boston at 7 PM and arriving in Dublin, Ireland about 7 AM local time.

So I need to adjust the times on my watch and several pieces of diabetes equipment. I also have to decide whether I want to eat the terrible air plane food or just try to make up for the sleep that I’ll miss.

Despite my diabetes, I can skip a meal because I’ve got an insulin pump.

If I’m traveling and decide not to skip a meal, I’ll often ask for vegetarian or kosher meals. That’s because ‘diabetic’ meals are often not really suitable for me.

And this time, I decide to put on eye shades and try to sleep for the entire flight. That way I’ll be in better form on arrival.

There is no cure for Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

Yet.

Question by sofiaiamlauren: Anyone have tips on cheap holiday travel ideas for new years 2008?
Hi guys, my name is sofia, I live in Los Angeles. Help! My boyfriend and I would really like to get away this year, at the end of December, possibly beginning of January for an eight or nine day vacation, Our budget is limited, and Im really vexd on where we should go. My best friend’s are going to pukhet Thailand, but I can’t seem to find anything reasonable during that peak holiday season. We really don’t have to travel there. My boyfriend has NEVER been outside the united states (I know:) so I wanted to bring him somewhere unique, exotic, and fun… I was hoping you might have a good idea, maybe a story from one of your travels that you would like to share with me. I am really overwhelmed! Ideally our budget is really only about ,ooo per person airfare, hotel, and food, and I DON’T want to take a cruise! lol.. Am I crazy, or is this doable? I would so appreciate your help! I have a fantastic two bedroom apt between westwood and Beverly hills, anyone up for a home swap:) Thx Sofia
