I live in Florida, and thinking of a 3 day weekend get away on short notice. There are several cheap airfares to cities available right now, and I’m totally open to almost any city of interest. I would prefer not to spend all of our time on a plane, so not as far as California or Seattle and such. I would prefer a locale that would not require a rental car to get around.

In the past, we have enjoyed Washington, DC and Seattle, WA. Points of interest can be action packed, of historical note, or laid back and relaxing.

If you’re on a budget forget flying and drive somewhere. If you think these airfares are cheap than you really don’t have a budget problem. Depending on where you are in Florida you could spend 25 bucks on gas and go to someplace in that radius. Say… Biloxi for a little light gambling. Savannah for the scenery. “Big” cities will have matching hotel rates.
If you drive you don’t need a rental.
I’ve run the gamut from deluxe vacations with hot and cold running valet service to camping. There is a three figure difference (three zeros, not a hundred bucks) between them.
Perhaps if you said what your “budget” was?

Depends on what you have to spend for housing. Driving might be the answer. Find something affordable close to home. In this economy, you may be able to get some good deals on places to go. Check the internet. Priceline.com has always been my choice for getting cheap hotel rooms. Maybe visit a hotel that has lots of amenities in a bigger city. Have you seen everything in DC? There are lots a great restaurants in out of the way places.
