Answer by conley39
The costs depend on exactly when you visit, where you visit, how you get around, rather you stay in hotels, hostels or have other arrangements, and what you see/do/eat. Airfares will depend on where you fly from. Generally, I would count on a minimum of 75 to 100 euro per day using hostels. Here are some resources that can help you plan and check prices:
http://www.kayak.com/ – airfares
http://www.skyscanner.it/ – budget flights especially good within Europe. For longer trips, this can be a better option than the trains, but it sounds like you may already have transportation covered.
http://www.seat61.com/ . For transportation, you’ll want to look into whether a rail pass is better than individual train tickets for getting around. The site explains how to determine whether a pass is worth the money to you and if so which option to get. There are links to the national train sites where you can find schedules and prices of individual tickets. One of the best sites for planning schedules throughout most of Europe is the German train site: http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/index.s… It is almost always cheaper to buy individual tickets for the trains here in Italy rather than trying to use a railpass. This site will also have information on supplements for the trains when using a railpass.
http://www.venere.com/ – hotels
http://www.hostelbookers.com/ – hostels.
http://www.monasterystays.com/ – monasterys & convents that offer accommodations
http://www.whatsonwhen.com/sisp/index.ht… – festivals, exhibitions and events
http://www.backpackeurope.com/ – information & advice
Check the websites for entrance fees for the museums & galleries you’re interested in. I spend anywhere between nothing and 40 euro a day depending on exactly what I go to see when out exploring.
I often spend 25 to 50 euro for a meal, but I like to try the local specialties and some of the better restaurants, but you can eat well for less. Here in Italy, a pizza is 8 to 13 euro and a panino or wrap is around 3 to 6.50 euro in many places. You can also shop in the markets and put some meals together for yourselves. You have enough funding that you shouldn’t have to worry to much about it though.

Question by Snarf: How much would i need to budget for a honeymoon in Europe?
The airfare is so ridiculous right now, I’m imagining it will only get worse by the time we want to go in June 09. I looked up flights to Rome from the U.S. and they are ,200 each. I figure if we are spending that much on airfare and time to get there that we will want to stay a minimum of 10 days (probably in 2-3 cities) How much should I plan to budget? We are fine with lower end hotels but will definately want to see and do everything we can with at least 1 nice dinner in each city. Anyone else going to Europe for their honeymooon?
I know its going to be expensive with the exchange rate but this is what we have been dreaming of for years and we are so set to go. I think we will be able to save enough, just trying to figure out how much to put away
Best answer:
Answer by Alicia
I would think twice about Europe right now. Yes, airfare is expensive but the bigger issue is the value of the dollar. The dollar is very bad right now, I think the exchange rate is like .00 is .64 euro. So not so good. Even the credit card exchange rate is bad, they charge you a percentage every time you use your credit card. And keep in mind, what the Europeans consider a nice hotel is not like what American’s consider a nice hotel. So be careful with that too. Don’t get me wrong, Italy is amazing, I was there in June of 2006. I would highly recommend going at some point, but you may want to put it off. We just got back from our honeymoon and we went to the Dominican Republic. We stayed at an all-inclusive so you really don’t need to worry about money. Also, they take american dollars and they want american dollars, so you can really barter with the vendors for stuff. Whatever you do, have a wonderful time!! Congrats!

Question by Trillian: Budget for Europe. Please Answer!!!! =)?
Okay so I realllly want to go to Europe for about three months.
I have been receiving very mixed reviews about how much I should save to spend three months in Europe (not including airfare). I would be staying in hostels, eating the most affordable food possible, and travelling in the most affordable manner (train, walking, maybe even hitchhiking)
I want to stick to a strict budget but still see all the amazing sites European countries have to offer, and I would want to spend time in countries such as Ireland,England, France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Holland, Germany…
How much would this all cost, ALL AND ANY ESTIMATES ARE APPRECIATED. Please help me out!!! =)))
Best answer:
Answer by Susan86
Well, I’ve visited every country you listed except for Ireland and England and I think it is gonna cost a lot if you have so many destinations. Traveling in the most affordable manner is not really possible by walking or taking a train if you want to visit all those countries. It is alright if you take the train from Germany to Holland for example but I don’t think you would want to take a train from Italy to Greece or Spain because although Europe is not as big as the U.S., that distance is too big and it would take very long.
If you feel that you don’t have enough money, I would recommend that you visit a few destinations for some weeks first because traveling, food and accommodation is not cheap especially if you move around so much.
I can’t give you an estimate since it depends on which cities you want to visit, how and when. If I were you and I didn’t have too much money, I would not risk this. I would just travel to one place and visit the closest points like if you go to Paris, France, you can easily go to Holland and Germany. Then when you collect some more money, you can visit the other cities in bunches like this. I think this would be the most low cost way to do this.
It is worth spending more time in one city than just traveling around because that is very tiring and you won’t be able to see everything you want to. Take your time, don’t want to visit everything at once because that will not work.

British Academics – Budget Travel & Vacation In Europe

Many budget travelers assume that a multi-city European vacation is beyond their means, but that is often not the case. The large number of budget airlines that have sprung up in Europe in recent years have dropped the average cost of airfare between many major European cities.
In some cases, the cost of coach airfare between major European hubs like London and Amsterdam is lower than a comparable first or even second class train ticket.
And of course flying between cities is far less time consuming than taking the train or driving yourself, and that means more time to explore the places you’ve always wanted to see, as well as more money to spend once you get there.
The key to getting the best airfares, both from the United States to destinations in Europe, and between European destinations, is to shop around and compare carefully.
Most major American air carriers have partnerships with one or more European airlines, and therefore it is often possible to shop airfares between European cities from the web sites of these airlines.
]]>
In addition, the major European only airlines all have their own web sites, and most provide for online booking and confirmation as well. This makes it easy to line up all your airfare before you leave the United States.
This is an important consideration, since it is often more difficult, and more expensive, to book airline tickets or train tickets after you have arrived in Europe.
The choice of European cities you plan to visit can also have a major impact on airfare between destinations. Many of the low cost European air carriers are based in London, so it is often considerably less costly to fly from London than to fly from many other major European cities.
Therefore, many budget travelers choose to make London their primary destination, and to take two and three day trips from there to the places they have always wanted to see.
While it is possible to get great deals from other European gateways, it is often more difficult than flying to and from London.
Just as American airlines have their own major gateways, such as New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta, so too do budget European airlines.
Planning your visit around these hub cites is often the best way to get the lowest possible airfares between European cities.
Flying within Europe is surprisingly affordable for way for many budget travelers to get around.
Many first time travelers to Europe, and some seasoned travelers as well, are shocked to find just how affordable it is to fly around Europe.

Packing Tips For Budget Traveler
While the traveler with only one bag is free to hop on the inexpensive city bus and pay as little as one dollar to get into town, if that same traveler is loaded down with three or four bulky suitcases, it is likely that an expensive taxi, and a potential fare of or more, may be the only option.

Since few people who can afford first class transatlantic flights fly on charter airlines, the first class section is often almost empty. Question by European: Cheap airfare to eastern europe?
I live in the USA, around D.C (so airports- Washington Dulles, BWI, JFK, any of those are good departure points), but all of my family is in Lithuania in Eastern Europe.
I visited them last year and in 2008 I would love to visit them again. My only problem is airfare is so expensive. Last year I paid ,300 a person (myself, my wife, and son).
Does anybody have any tips? I know I should be flexible with dates and airports and I am. I want to departe in the summer-June or July and stay for about 4 weeks.
Anybody have a travel agent they would like to recommend or a secret website, insted of orbitz, kayak, travelocity, etc.
Would it be better for me to book in 2007 or would it be better to book 6-8 weeks prior in 2008?
