No direct flights exist, so your best bet is to fly to a major hub where they are available (Miami, Atlanta, Houston). Copa, the Panamanian airline offers really good fares from US cities it serves, but it does not fly to Pr. Your fixed schedule could make it difficult to find a fare in your price range, especially as the 22nd is less than 2 weeks away.
Try http://www.kayak.com as it gets fares from a variety of sources so that you can compare them.

I don’t know much about Interrail but most Europeans fly from one destination to another. It is really cheap and fast, so I would never waste my time and go by train!

You are best off visiting a good travel agent in Puerto Rico. Often agents in the country you are flying from has access to discount airfares.
